Four Ways to Explain Reiki

People are always asking me “What is Reiki?”

Reiki is a hands on healing technique which calms and relaxes, accelerates the natural healing ability of the body and brings body, mind and soul into harmony.

I have a few different ways to explain Reiki and how it works.

The Snow Globe

Snowglobe

Think of your mind like a snow globe that’s just been shaken, and all the bits of snow are thoughts that are swirling around inside your head. Now imagine the snow gradually drifting to the bottom and settling there, leaving a clear space above. During a Reiki session your thoughts have a chance to settle and your head should clear. Afterwards you can sort through your thoughts one at a time, in a calm and logical way. You will probably even find that many of your thoughts have gone and you are left with one or two issues to deal with.

Every thought we have sends out a message to our body. When we calm the mind the body will respond and relax.

The River of White Light

Over time we can accumulate stuck energy in our bodies. This can happen when we judge our emotions as unacceptable or too painful, and push them down. E-motions are energy in motion. That energy is designed to move through us, and be released. When the energy gets stuck it can cause tension, pain and eventually disease. Reiki works through our bodies like a gentle river, washing away anything we are ready to release. It is gentle but powerful, just like water.

The Well-Tuned Engine.

When a car’s engine is tuned so that all the parts are working together really well, it’s a pleasure to drive. Everything is in harmony, running smoothly. You might even say “She‘s purring like a kitten!” A Reiki session is like a tune up for your body, mind and spirit. Each of the parts should work together harmoniously, smoothly and effortlessly. There should be no coughs and splutters, and no irritating noises!

The Velcro Effect

Velcro-Effect

Do you ever find that when you have one problem, you seem to attract lots of other problems until you feel completely overwhelmed?

My friend Mary calls this The Velcro Effect. Energy attracts similar energy. Stress, fear and worry have a lower energetic vibration than contentment, happiness and joy. Reiki tends to raise your energetic vibration, in turn attracting positive energy to you. So don’t curl up in a ball when you feel  overwhelmed, ask a Reiki practitioner to gently help.
